Amadu was originally taking 90mg of methadone & his #pain kept getting worse & his meds were going up too. With Lead NP Donna McCurry of the #SCClinic's help, he's now on only 2-3 pills daily and his pain is better & he says he is clearer too

Orren Eaton has went through #Buprenorphine treatment and now only takes 2 pills, 1 in the morning & 1 at night. It will be a yr since he's been admitted in Nov. He said before he had several hospital admissions & this has helped his QOL.

Dr. Simone Uwan of @sc_advocacy said she didn't even start identifying herself as a doctor until 2018. She talked about feeling dehumanized during a crisis when during a hospital stay she was only given 1mg of medicine that whole time.

Dietician Kaitlin Allen from @UHKCMO says supplementing B #vitamins, including B6, B12, Riboflavin, Folate, will help with cell growth/turnover and energy expenditure. Also low Vitamin A status increases the risk for #hospitalization.

The link between depression and pain is well documented. As Dr. Pat Carroll pointed out, if you treat the depression you'll most likely have synergistic benefits with the patient's #sicklecell pain treatment. I can personally attest to that!

Dr. Pat Carroll also stressed that while yes, disease modifying therapies reduce #crises, but have minimal effect on non-crisis #pain. There are many interventions for pain & most have small effects & take wks of adherence to see them.
