Today, WED DEC 4:
- Bill C-293 passed 2nd reading in the senate. There will be no further hearings. There was no committee. This is not on their website yet.
Our Source: A senator. We spoke to them in October at their phone number listed on their web site. We left the senator messages Nov 22, and Nov 25 asking the status of the bill & committee.
Today they returned our message and stated they had no voice mail messages until today when many suddenly came through including ours. They reported 2nd reading completed today and 3rd reading will happen early next week, maybe Thursday, Dec 5 (tomorrow). The senators signalled their intentions that they will pass this bill. 80 of the 105 senators were appointed by PM Trudeau.
Oct 21 - Bill C-293 was introduced into 2nd reading. The sponsor of the bill Senator Megie refused to answer questions saying "I have no solutions", this will be discussed in committee.
The Canadian public were robbed of their opportunity to have expert witnesses invited to address the senators in committee to inform them of the consequences of this bill. Instead, partisan politics in the Senate have circumvented parliamentary process, yet again.

C-293 alters everything we now know about Canada. No other bill represents such a clear threat to Canada and the rule of law given the complete absence of definitions of terms coupled with its comprehensive overreach into every aspect of life.
This Bill has been passed by the House and has had first reading in the Senate. To prevent this dangerous Bill from becoming Canadian law, please take the following actions. https://t.co/gMBFKAgCDp

HERE IS THE LIST OF CANADIAN SENATORS -Below
SAY NO TO #C293
Honourable Senator
Senate of Canada
Ottawa, Ontario
K1A 0A4
Dear Honourable Senator,
URGENT: A Call to Protect Canadians from the Dangers of Bill C-293 - STOP the Bill from Passing 3rd Reading
I am writing to you with great urgency and deep concern regarding Bill C-293, which is currently under consideration in the Senate. As a proud Canadian and a firm believer in the foundational values of democracy, privacy, and individual freedoms, I implore you to halt this bill before it inflicts irreversible damage to the liberties of all Canadians.
PLEASE STOP the Bill from Passing 3rd Reading
While the intent behind Bill C-293 may seem well-meaning, the dangers it presents to the core principles of freedom and privacy far outweigh any potential benefits. Below are the critical reasons this bill must not proceed:
Erosion of Privacy Rights: Bill C-293 enables a sweeping increase in data collection and surveillance over Canadian citizens. This could lead to an unprecedented invasion of privacy, creating a framework for misuse, overreach, and abuse by the government. It sets a dangerous precedent for future legislation that could normalize mass surveillance.
Increased Government Control: The bill gives the government vast oversight powers without sufficient checks and balances. This opens the door to arbitrary control and restricts the autonomy of individuals and communities. Such unchecked authority could fundamentally alter the relationship between citizens and the state, turning what is meant to be a free society into one that operates under the shadow of control.
Weak Protections for Personal Data: In its current form, Bill C-293 lacks adequate safeguards for the personal information it mandates the government to collect. In an age of data breaches and digital threats, we cannot afford to compromise the security of our citizens’ sensitive information. Once this data is collected, it can be shared, leaked, or weaponized, with devastating consequences for individuals’ rights and security.
Threat to Democratic Processes: By expanding government authority and curtailing individual freedoms, this bill erodes the very democratic values upon which Canada was founded. It creates an environment where dissent and free expression may be stifled under the guise of “security” or “public interest,” which is a dangerous path that has been taken by authoritarian regimes in the past.
Lack of Transparency and Public Accountability: The mechanisms for public oversight in Bill C-293 are woefully insufficient. This bill effectively gives the government carte blanche to enact sweeping measures without providing citizens with a clear understanding of how their data will be used, shared, or stored. This lack of transparency is incompatible with the principles of a free and open society.
6. Overriding Provincial Jurisdiction:
7. Lack of Boundaries to Powers (Foreign & Domestic)
8. NO Definitions For TOO Many Terms within the Bill
Honourable Senator, Canadians look to you as the guardians of our rights and freedoms. It is imperative that the Senate take a stand against legislation that threatens these principles. Bill C-293 poses a direct risk to the fundamental values we hold dear—values of privacy, freedom, and democracy.
I strongly urge you to oppose this bill and protect the rights of all Canadians. Let us not allow fear or overreach to undermine the freedoms generations before us fought so hard to secure.
Thank you for your attention to this critical issue. I trust that you will act in the best interest of the Canadian people and reject Bill C-293.
Yours sincerely,
