The Herald series on alcohol and Scotland this week is fascinating (I would say this, I know). It’s looking at every angle including sports sponsorship by the alcohol industry, which is something SHAAP wants to see changed. #callingtime
SHAAP Director @EdinburghElle sets out our case for a ban of alcohol sports sponsorship in this Herald article.

All sports should be about promoting fun, participation, health and wellbeing, and our love of sports should not be exploited by an industry that relies on making money by us consuming their products in quantities that harm us.

Well said. Men's football in particular needs to join the dots. @ScotWFootball have shown the way. Many clubs and leagues internationally do perfectly well without health harming sponsorship. @ALLIANCEScot should support @SHAAPAlcohol campaign #CallingTime https://t.co/5lNLSxWoD3
And that should involve not promoting alcohol, tobacco or gambling. A hard thing to do in the current economic crisis but morally the right thing to do. Always support and promote football before the brands .
Catherine Anderson @AlcHealthwatch outlines how they mobilised communities to try to improve local #alcohol policies (achieved) & end alcohol sponsorship of broadcast sport (not achieved- yet!) Some similarities with @SHAAPAlcohol #callingtime campaign #gapc2023

🚨We should be able to enjoy sports without the constant nudge to drink.
🗣️Sport should be associated with and inspire good health and team spirit, and should not be used as a marketing tool for harmful products. #CallingTime
