Didn't most CDC members support and defend Calvin Ball's veto of #CB51 (with the complicity of Christiana Rigby and Opel Jones)? It's kind of cute they're now pretending to care about undocumented immigrants when they sided with ICE not too long ago. Establishment simps.
Gathering with neighbors and fellow progressive orgs this afternoon to organize in support of the #HoCoMD Liberty Act. @columbiademclub @IndivisibleHoCo @ORHoCo @MDCASA @FriendsLatinAm

Interestingly enough, developer-friendly @CouncilmanOpelJ, @councilwomancmr and @YungmannDavid (a.k.a. The Odd Squad) also helped @HoCoGovExec Calvin Ball sabotage last year's #CB51 and preserve the county's immoral contract with ICE. Bipartisanship!
For the third year in a row, we observe the flowing: terrible zoning and land use decisions are bipartisan.
Councilmembers Opel Jones, Christiana Rigby, and David Yungmann have voted lockstep with County Executive Calvin Ball and their decisions are the negative contributors.
grabe naman ending ng #cb51
si rift may cosette and she's currently pregnant pa. si kill, may six at aza. si rion naman kasal na kay syn. tapos si cell, mag-isa lang, wala man lang hint ng jowa. pwede namang ako ang kapartner nya teh @jeeinna_wp don't be shy.
Our gratitude also goes to @LizWalshHoCoD1 who sponsored #CB51 last Sept to cancel HoCo's contract with ICE. Undoubtedly that bill (passed in county council but immediately vetoed by @HoCoGovExec ) added crucial momentum to the eventual ending of the ICE contract in the county.
HB16, the Dignity Not Detention bill, just passed 86-46 and heads to the Governor. THIS IS AN AMAZING WIN! Thank you @DelegateStewart @Willcsmithjr for sponsoring this bill, and to @WanikaFisher for your work in adding strengthening lang. from HB304. #MGDA21 🥳
.@HoCoGovExec Calvin Ball: You justified your veto of #CB51 that would have closed the detention center by claiming it had humane conditions. Do you still believe that? #ICEoutofHoCo

In a letter in @HoCoTimes, @HC_Immigrants' Laurie Liskin urges @HoCoGovExec Calvin Ball to rescind his veto of #CB51 and end the county's contract to keep ICE detainees at the Jessup Detention Center — esp. in light of outrageous abuses uncovered recently. https://t.co/r1moWV3OfM
It seems our confidence in @councilwomancmr was rather misplaced. Although she voted in support of #CB51, she cowardly abstained from voting last Monday when the council had a chance to overturn Ball's veto. Many of her constituents are disgusted at her lack of principles.
"The bill passed, 3-2, with council Chairperson Deb Jung [@CouncilDeb], Christiana Mercer Rigby [@councilwomancmr] and Walsh [@LizWalshHoCoD1] voting in favor; Opel Jones [@CouncilmanOpelJ] and David Yungmann [@YungmannDavid] voted against." #ICEMediaWatch https://t.co/ro2mVJEE3h
Last night, we could not muster the resolve to override @HoCoGovExec’s veto of #CB51.
@CouncilDeb and I voted for.
Formerly “yes,” @councilwomancmr this time abstained.
And voting against, to keep #HoCoMd’s for-profit contract with ICE, was @YungmannDavid and @CouncilmanOpelJ.

Last night HoCo Council voted to keep #ICE contract for use of detention center in detaining #immigrants. HoCoExec Ball had vetoed bill #CB51 to end contract. Walsh, Jung voted to overturn this veto; Rigby abstained; Jungmann, Jones voted to sustain veto and keep the contract.

And now @DHSgov and @ICEgov themselves confirm: Once those persons are accepted into our own care and custody, we treat them inhumanely.
This is us, #HoCoMd.
Tonight, during our legislative session beginning at 7pm, @HoCoCouncil votes to overrride @HoCoGovExec’s veto of #CB51.

#HoCoMd’s Council votes to override @HoCoGovExec’s veto of #CB51 this Monday night, November 2, @NickMiroff.
No @HoCoGov mention of this DHS investigation or its condemnable findings to this legislative body during the entirety of our consideration of that bill. Or ever before.
This rests entirely on @HoCoGovExec Calvin Ball's shoulders, because of his intransigent, subservient defense of the county's contract with ICE. He has always sided with ICE, against all the evidence uncovered by immigrant rights activists. #ICEMediaWatch https://t.co/9Cs13TpvlH
Anyone involved in hockey knows it’s one big family and I’m honored that @JakeRyanAbbott is part of my hockey family. You will always hold a special place in my heart and the world truly lost another good one. #JA17 #CB51 #flyhigh #onceaflyeralwaysaflyer

Our @HC_Immigrants Coalition thanks councilmembers @LizWalshHoCoD1, @CouncilDeb, and @councilwomancmr for their "dedication, vision and success in passing the Bill for termination of the Inter Government Services Agreement (“the Contract”) with ICE." #CB51 https://t.co/9wBYX7cuQm
How can @HoCoGovExec ignore calls from the majority of Councilmembers, advocates and constituents to pass #CB51? This is NOT how to protect our immigrant communities. #ICEoutofhoco
