#Vocal Chains – I fully agree with Nate here. Put a chain together and save it as a template. It will save time and preserve your focus.
I have many different chain templates (saved as #Reason12 #Combinators) for vocals, drums, bass, guitar, etc that I can just drag in and tweak on demand.
🎚️ Massively improve your vocal mixing as a beginner
If I can view my career as before and after, this was probably my biggest leap in mixing quality, from the very zero to some decent results. And the idea is to stop adding plugins on the fly. You should develop your vocal chain and follow the exact steps.
1. Create a template with basic aux channels set up. Short reverb, long reverb, all basic delays, chorus, parallel processing.
2. Understand your vocal chain where every tool does its job and use them in order.
How you can do it if you are just starting?
Very simple. Just copy it from any pro, better with explanation on what does each plugin do. With more experience you will understand how to tweak the template to your needs.
But having a chain with basic understanding of each step helped me drastically when I was learning.
No pro starts with empty project and adds plugin after plugin, then doing the routing from scratch. Every pro has a template.

Cleaning, tuning (first de essing here if needed)

Preamp emulation (if needed)
↓
Surgical EQ
↓
Compressors
↓
Coloring EQ
↓
De essing
↓
Final dynamic control (limiting/soothe2/mb compression)

Sends and parallel processing
I rarely use a separate saturator as vocals get enough tone and character from analog modeled devices I use.
