Last Thursday, the 30th of April 2026, the Zimbabwe Council of Churches, in partnership with @ZELO_Infor and @ZIMCODD1, convened the Bikita District Alternative Mining Indaba, bringing together 55 stakeholders to strengthen accountability in natural resource governance.
Discussions highlighted slow progress on past commitments made in August 2025, ongoing environmental risks, unresolved displacement and compensation issues, and gaps in service delivery affecting communities. Duty bearers acknowledged challenges such as weak enforcement frameworks, delays in finalizing a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) between the RDC and Bikita Minerals, as well as capacity and coordination gaps in addressing community grievances. The engagement ended with participants agreeing on urgent next steps, including improved engagement with Bikita Minerals, strengthening community structures, and accelerating solutions on water, relocation, and community benefits.
The ZCC remains committed to advancing accountable, community-centered natural resource governance that advances abundant life for all, guided by John 10:10: “I have come that they may have life, and have it to the full.”
