■Mkhwanazi recalled the period when senior #CrimeIntelligence officials became embroiled in allegations of corruption and political interference.
■He suggested that the instability and infighting that emerged then weakened SAPS and allowed organised crime to gain ground.
■He said the saga around the suspension and legal troubles of Richard Mdluli is an example of how investigations into powerful figures were allegedly obstructed and how political influence affected policing decisions.
■His broader point was that the events surrounding the #PKTT in 2024–2025 were not unprecedented. According to him, the same kinds of interference, factional battles and protection of influential individuals had been seen before, dating back to around 2011 when he was Acting-NatComm.
■He used those 2011 events to argue that the current problems within SAPS are systemic and longstanding, rather than isolated incidents.
