Currently feeling very grateful for the work of @naomi_jacobs - their work on disability in religious contexts has been invaluable in asserting to my mum that she deserves to enter church as a disabled person as an equal, not as a charitable project.
I truly believe a huge ecumenical conversation needs to be had about this. I am disabled. I follow a ton of #DisabledClergy and I have a ton of laity some of them now former who is disabled and I have seen many churches boast of inclusion but...are not living it. #CripTheChurch
Remember, churches lobbied to be exempt from the ADA and succeeded. So yeah, I remain uncertain that churches who claim "all are welcome" can live up to that very brash statement.
This is a long thread however I think a lot of abled people both Christians and Clergy need to read it. This is our lived experience even before Covid and now to see someone's mother treated like this breaks my heart #CripTheChurch #FaithfullyDisabled #DisabledClergy

@Equal_Church @DisabilityJ I'm going to say this quietly because I'm embarrassed, but having had ME and not been able to go to church on sundays for >3 years, I cried when the newsletter came out saying they would live stream sunday services online for those ill or self-isolating. They always could have.
