June 12, 1990 - Down 2-games-to-1, the @trailblazers nearly came away with the miracle shot in the #NBAFinals. A 35-foot attempt by #Blazers guard #DannyYoung went through the net as the buzzer sounded seemed to force OT, as @NBA referee #MikeMathis signaled the shot good. Players on both teams immediately reacted; the Blazers believing the game was headed to OT, and the #Pistons believing the shot came too late. @NBAOfficial #EarlStrom, calling his final @NBA game after 29 years, huddled with fellow #NBA referees #HughEvans and Mathis, and they determined that the shot was too late, pushing #Portland into a 3-games-to-1 deficit. Leading to that moment, the two teams traded points and the lead over the final half minute. #ClydeDrexler connected on two FTA to put the Blazers up 107-106 with 31.8 seconds, but just as quickly, the lead disappeared after a #IsiahThomas jumper, and two FT put #Detroit back on top 110-107 with 8.4 seconds showing. After a quick foul by #MarkAguirre, @terryporter30 connected on his 2 FTA to pull #Portland back to within a point, at 110- 109, but the Pistons again pushed the lead as #GeraldHenderson connected on an easy layup and a 112–109 lead with 1.8 seconds left. The Blazers quickly inbounded and ran the ball up the court where Young connected on his 35-footer from the right sideline as the buzzer sounded. Young believed the shot too late as well, but was hoping the referees would count it. "It was the biggest basket I almost made," Young said afterwards. "I couldn't hear the horn and I couldn't see the clock. I was just trying to get as close as I could." Drexler scored 34 points and #JeromeKersey had a then PO career-best 33 points. It is the second time two Portland players topped 30 points in a PO game. Drexler added 10 assists and 8 rebounds. #RipCity #ThisDateinBlazersHistory #OTD

August 1 1986 - @terryporter30 dropped 40 points in the @trailblazers #SummerLeague game vs a team of @NBA Stars. Porter connected on all 11 FTA and 11 of his 19 FGA while new FA signees #DannyYoung and @mdhhoops each scored 11 and 10 points respectively. #SamBowie, who is the part-owner in three horses, is expected to arrive in camp tomorrow to participate in practice but not games. "I have no pain," Bowie said regarding his leg. "I don't feel as if I should put myself in a position where something out of the ordinary could happen to me." #WalterBerry, the #Blazers 1st round pick from @StJohnsBBall, is expected to arrive tomorrow and is considering playing despite not having signed a contract as yet. #RipCity #ThisDateinBlazersHistory

@OfficialNBARefs #EarlStrom called the last game of his 29 year career today, including making the final call that the shot that @trailblazers guard #DannyYoung made at the buzzer to tie the game, was too late. Strom was the center of a few controversies in his career. In the 1st playoff game between the #Blazers and the @nuggets, a death threat was made on Strom, as he was 1 of 2 @NBAOfficial to cross the picket line. In a 1974 playoff game between the @chicgaobulls and the @Bucks, Strom not only ejected #Bulls coach #DickMotta, but also tossed the #Bulls mascot, "#BennytheBull". Strom officiated 2,400 regular season games in the @NBA and in the #ABA including 295 playoff games, 7 All-Star games, and 29 #NBA and ABA Finals. For his extensive contributions to the game, Strom, who passed away in 1994, was posthumously elected to the @Hoophall in 1995. #RipCity #ThisDateinBlazersHistory
