"Britain’s electricity network will require up to £240bn of upgrades to support clean power targets, the Department for Energy Security and Net Zero (DESNZ) has admitted.
In new estimates released by the Government, the cost of building new pylons and power lines will skyrocket in the next 24 years to achieve the Government’s net zero ambitions.
The energy department has already warned that grid upgrades will cost £80bn by 2030.
However, the latest forecasts indicate that this is just the start of a much larger upgrade programme – with households poised to foot the bill.
The costs of grid expansion are loaded onto consumers’ energy bills to pay for upgrades carried out by the UK’s monopoly transmission operators: National Grid, SSE and Scottish Power.
This includes building new pylons across the country to transport electricity generated by renewables, including rural wind and solar farms." https://t.co/zplv4RzLHi

The average Aussie household can afford to buy a home worth up to only $513,000, leaving the vast majority of properties out of reach.
Even as property prices fall due to ongoing high interest rates that have reduced buyers’ borrowing capacity, most first-home hopefuls without family help still face a steep hurdle.
For houses only, the median value in Sydney is much higher at $1.47 million and in Melbourne, $860,000, based on CoreLogic data. This compares with the national median dwelling value – houses and units combined – of $815,000.
There are only two Melbourne suburbs with a median house value under the budget considered affordable – in Melton and Melton South.
There are no Sydney suburbs with a median house value under $513,000. The cheapest is San Remo on the northern end of the Central Coast, at $694,000.
Across Australia, only 15.5 per cent of house and unit markets analysed have a median value that would be considered affordable.
Governments have played a key role in driving house prices beyond the reach of the average Aussie through actions such as:
- Record high immigration.
- Excessive spending and debt accumulation, driving high inflation.
- Draconian Covid measures (such as border closures).
- Overregulation of the construction sector. Red and green tape as far as the eye can see.
- Empowering union thuggery.
- High taxes on the development of new land and houses.
- Exorbitant taxes on individuals.
- Unproductive taxes that punish growing businesses, like payroll tax.
- Banning sustainable native timber harvesting.
- Demand side stimulus, such as first homeowner grants that only drive land and build costs higher.
- Inflexible Industrial relations laws acting as a handbrake on productivity.
- Insufficient new land releases.
- High energy costs, driving manufacturing offshore.
- Net zero madness.
The list is endless.
Government actions, more often than not, exacerbate the issue of housing affordability.

They're constantly cooking up new ways to rip off motorists, "nudge" people out of their cars, and restrict mobility. Owners of larger cars are already being robbed by high rates of fuel duty, road tax etc. https://t.co/fpTRaCD2tY
