continuing my #DevHorror daily stories: a CTO hyped up on red bull, works overnight, pushs code breaking production! eng team spends next day reverting his changes and fixing prod without telling him to avoid arguments ... and because he's passed out in the server room.

I once worked with an "Architect" who didn't approve of PHP5, so stuck with PHP4, but it wasn't good enough for him, he wanted to add features to the language ... so he wrote a PHP parser, in PHP to parse PHP files in real-time to add annotation and syntax sugar. #DevHorror

@AhmadNassri Two words: isomorphic JavaScript. #devhorror The codebase started with jQuery.get exposed as $.get, per frontend convention. This was “isomorphically” implemented on the backend with node.js core APIs and Mongoose, which had its own early Promise implementation.

tell me your most horrific dev stories! I have many, I'll start with this: at a broadcasting corp, Java devs refused to build APIs, instead exposed JSON "feeds" which are constructed manually using FreeMarker templates manually = unescaped strings, commas, quotes... #DevHorror

@AhmadNassri #devhorror Today: vendor really doesn't like updating their docs. Will tell you they're wrong, they're out of date, etc. but doesn't ever actually fix them. Sales guy even called us rude for asking. Today we discovered their permissions demo gives EVERYONE admin privileges.
