@juliaisobela Newly qualified med doc (plus previous PhD) with CPTSD and CKD which has required dyalising. And there are many more like you and others who give so much to the NHS plus make it better #disableddoc #thrive
Today, my cointerns and I spent a couple hours practicing obtaining IV access on each other. It was such an important exercise—knowing what your patients go through is the only way to truly empathize w them. I say this CONSTANTLY as a #DisabledDoc! You’re the best, @Jacobi_EM 🤍
So when does a leave of absence from med school stop being "relevant" for licensing? Like I love saying hey to my Dean biannually but it's been almost a decade... can I just save his letter & use it forever? This is just silly. #disableddoc
Also top tip to these HCPs…maybe get to know your audience before making such disgraceful comments…because the med student you’re ranting to, also has these conditions 🖕🏼#FND #disableddoc
6 week GP Placement…completed it mate ✅
Absolutely delighted to leave with an ✨OUTSTANDING✨
GP is certainly on my radar for a future career & definitely suitable for someone with mobility issues. On to neurology next…this could be interesting #FND #medstudent #disableddoc

#Wheelchair #Travel episode#457: Refused escort who was extremely concerned I was traveling alone. I roll in elevator next to another male passenger in a chair who promptly starts hitting on me. #TooEarly for #Ableism and #Sexism #DisabilityTwitter #DisabledDoc

This new #DisabledDoc just started residency, so pairing up mentees and mentors might be a little slower than usual. I appreciate the understanding!
Keep on messaging me if you want to sign up to be a #mentor or #mentee!

Seven years, a masters, a freak spinal cord injury and a global pandemic later...I’M A DOCTOR! Proud is an understatement.

Some, like @MyronRolle are respected by academics, athletes & those of us that are both, without all of the negatives of the athlete stereotype.
Now, trying to get the world to understand that this #DisabledDoc STILL IS an athlete, that’s a whole ‘nother thread. #AdaptiveSports

Docs, don't say with a negative tone "You've seen a lot of doctors." If you were sick, and getting worse, and your current team wasn't slowing the decline, would you just give up? Or see if someone else can help? Ok, then. #DisabledDoc #disabled #NEISvoid #MedEd #MedTwitter
Are you a future #DisabledDoc? Please fill out our survey about your MCAT accommodations experience so we can have a better view of the issues apart from AAMC's rose-colored glasses!

Guess I’ll tell my families #disableddoc story.
My dad was a neurologist for 12 years before diagnosed with narcolepsy with severe cataplexy. He was about 42. Practice could not accommodate him.

I really thank you so much @PublicHealth @APHAStudents and @APHADisability for amplifying the voices of Bryan Stevenson of @eji_org and @Okanlami as a #DisabledDoc. These conversations at @APHAAnnualMtg are so appreciated, so thank you! #APHA2020
Thankful to join Dr. @PetePoullos on behalf of @StanfordMedAC for the first ever @StanfordMed Town Hall on disability. Watch the whole town hall if you have time, but in this clip, I share my story and why I now identify as a #DisabledDoc 1/4 https://t.co/PkYLmMmp4J #NDEAM #DEHEM
@sarah_islam25 @somedocs Love this discussion on #ableism in #MedEd and #Medicine.
Sorry I chimed in so late.
Co-signing everything that’s been said here.
Thank you everyone.
From one #DisabledDoc to another...and to all of you out there regardless of (dis)ability.
Thank you 🙏🏽

Are there any medical professionals who have successfully been able to have a service dog present in classrooms and/or clinical spaces?
Please DM me, a #DisabledDoc needs advice.

I really would love to have a #DisabledDoc one day. I know that I would have better care and a mentor as I apply to grad school with disabilities. Medical school and graduate school are different, but in either case disclosure timing is important.
Also LOVE Dr. @Okanlami's response to this question. You can be a #DisabledDoc and not have it be the only thing about you. It can sometimes be difficult when you feel pressured to fit in just one box. We are all multifaceted!
