Being a citizen ≠ being able to prove you’re a citizen.

So in order to be eligible to vote one would need a birth certificate, passport or naturalization certificate? At a minimum this will discourage some citizens from voting.

Trump’s birthright citizenship attacks by denying issuance of documents people use to prove their citizenship.
#Documentdependence attack vector.
https://t.co/X5FxiA2Hcl

What he can do is make life difficult for U.S. born children of undocumented ppl through executive action denying passports, citizenship certificates, etc. during the months and years before he is slapped down by the judiciary.
This makes it difficult for those U.S. citizens to prove they are citizens.

This experiment is part of my practical study of the phenomenon I call single sovereign #documentdependence.
And how an individual can reduce their vulnerability to it.

If you don’t have 2-3 certified copies of your birth certificate in your possession, you are setting yourself up for a future #documentdependence bottleneck that could halt your immigration process when you need it most.
If there’s a stamp, seal and fee, you should probably order three.

Regardless of who wins, you need to have an apostilled certified copy of all your vital documents at all times. 🫡

Phenomenal example of a #documentdependence issue, and a true passport problem from @PYUnlocked. 👇
The Slovenian passport is mouthy - it gives away extraneous information of the holder - where he/she is deemed to have resided, according to Slovenian authorities.
Iranian passports have a similar issue in that they reveal the passport holder's "Country of Residence" (کشور محل اقامت)on page 3.
🇸🇮 Slovenian passport holders face a unique challenge when applying abroad for Temporary Residency (TR) in Paraguay 🇵🇾.
Over the past 12 months, I’ve proudly assisted several clients from Slovenia in their TR applications here, achieving a 💯% success rate.
📄 Slovenian passports are distinct in that foreign domicile or Permanent Residency (PR) stamps are placed on page 3 (section 15, opposite the biographic information page) 📑 — information that migration officers cannot overlook. 👀
Most South American countries, including Paraguay, require applicants to provide legal background checks 📜 from countries where they’ve “resided” over the past 3 years (e.g., Paraguay, Argentina) or 5 years (e.g., Brazil) 🌎.
While certain exceptions or conditions may apply (as is typical in any migration framework) 📝, attempting to avoid declaring prior residencies to bypass obtaining additional legal background checks is risky. ⚠️
📌 If your prior PR status is stamped on page 3 of your passport, it’s wise to be prepared with all necessary documentation before applying. Seeking proper guidance is key 🔑!

“If you want to prepare for an unexpected situation in the future, I recommend you apply for:
* a duplicate birth certificate for each member of your family (including children)
* a current criminal record certificate (but this is usually valid for a maximum of 6 months)
* Apostilization and legal translation of all the above documents into English and Spanish, also arrange for apostilization of these legal translations
* a second passport (Czech citizens can even have three passports)
* if you have a marriage certificate, divorce certificate, or university diploma, include it in the above list”
The price of a bribe to avoid mobilization as a Ukrainian man and to leave Ukraine has increased from 10,000 to over 15,000 to 20,000 USD.
A black market in Ukrainian birth certificates, which can no longer be obtained remotely outside of Ukraine, has started as consular services for Ukrainians outside of Ukraine are shut down. But you need them to obtain residency in another country.
In Paraguay, we ask the immigration office for an exception for Ukrainians - to return their birth certificate to them after the immigration process is complete. It's worth its weight in gold at the moment.
If you want to prepare for an unexpected situation in the future, I recommend you apply for:

With this, you can arrange residency in most countries.
Otherwise, you'll be like a hunted animal - Ukrainians who didn't manage to arrange this (and didn't apply for special asylum) can only be everywhere for a few months on a tourist visa. And when their passport expires, they automatically become illegal immigrants, since they can't remotely get a passport. And in Ukraine, they will be sent straight to the human meat grinder.
Nearly every American citizen can immediately improve their freedom of movement, and decrease their single sovereign #documentdependence by getting their:
1) U.S. passport,
2) passport card,
3) birth certificate & apostille, and a
4) Palau digital residency & ID.
Most people can get all four on their own within two months for less than $500 in expense.

Restrictions on your freedom of movement ("FOM") *generally* come at three layers
1⃣ Layer 1 - Proving your legal identity & citizenship
2⃣ Layer 2 - Your passport (required for international bordered travel).
3⃣ Layer 3 - Visa, residency or (2nd) citizenship
An attack at any of the 3 layers inhibits your freedom of movement.
A layer 1 attack is most devastating because any movement (legally) at all depends upon proving your legal identity (valid ID).
This is why people without legal identity and stateless people are the worst off, and why single sovereign #documentdependence is the silent FOM killer.
Obtaining a visa or residency (layer 3) also often depends on layer 2 because nearly all countries require you have a passport to issue you a visa, and many require you to have a passport to be lawfully resident in their country.
.....
✅Second citizenship allows you to prove legal identity (layer 1) through a second sovereignty - the 2nd country.
✅That second sovereign also acts as a 2nd passport issuing entity (layer 2).
✅That second citizenship also provides highest right of entry and residency in a second country (layer 3) generally even if you don't have the passport from the second country. This is because there's a widely internationally recognized right of return to one's country of citizenship (although it'll likely be a PITA).
In other words, 2nd citizenship provides a second path to legal identity, second passport, and second country where you have immediate, highest right of entry.

People who have never experienced a #documentdependence issue related to ID, vital records or a passport have no idea how it can grind your life to a halt and wreck any immigration or travel plans you have.
It's just like someone who's never had trouble breathing being unaware of how inextricably intertwined oxygen is with their daily existence.
The solution is to get certified copies of your vital docs, IDs, and additional passports and substitute travel docs AHEAD OF TIME. ✅
“I would save the $20M and my birth certificate because it is hard to replace those things.” 😂
This man understands the vulnerability of single sovereignty #documentdependence!
Thx to @0xCuttlefish for tagging me.

This is how your country of birth or citizenship uses your #documentdependence on it to coerce you into compliance.
In some cases, compliance that can cost you your life.
No matter where you are from in the world, get your vital documents NOW in triplicate.
And start working towards a second #citizenship, or at least a second residency. Once you have a second citizenship, apply for the second #passport ASAP.
10 year passports are better than 5 year passports.
Break your home country’s coercive monopoly on your freedom of movement, and safety.

The Problem of Single Sovereignty Document Dependence
Ukrainian military aged men around the world are now dealing with the critical mobility concept of single sovereign #documentdependence.
#documentdependence stems from the fact that in order to travel, work, or stay in other countries, you need vital documents and travel documents in addition to the underlying legal statuses they represent.
These documents are issued (almost exclusively) by nation states governments.
[Some governments give limited recognition to documents issued by religious institutions]
If your nation state is unable or unwilling to issue these important documents to you, your freedom of movement eventually grinds to a halt.
So how do you deal with single sovereign document dependence?
There are two big ways.
First, get extra certified copies of your vital documents ahead of time.
1. Apostille one set of them.
2. Scan them.
3. Save the hard copies in a beautiful brown faux leather sovereignty binder.
Second, work towards second citizenship (or at least a residency).
1. Get the passport of your second country of citizenship.
2. Get the national ID of your second country of citizenship.
.....
When you have only one country that will issue you a passport and an ID, you are metaphorically like a high heel.
--> more prone to a fall from over reliance on a single sovereign.
When you have two countries that will issue you a passport and an ID, you are more like a snowshoe.
--> less prone to fall due to less reliance on any single sovereign.
