Thanks Steve, and you are very welcome! I myself had to participate in the confusing, old style “life boat drill” all of my life (starting as a young boy), and somebody simply had to step up and fix it. lol.
FYI: If you take a close look at the embodiment of the patent, you will see that (so far), the development of my invention has been embryonic at best.
The use of geolocation technology in combination with personal devices and/or wearables, is actually the main event of my big idea. By installing a network of locator beacons around each muster station (similar to the system that is being used to locate and guide the indoor drone swarms that I introduced to Royal Caribbean’s production shows), guests would be able to participate in the eMuster process without the need for crew participation. At the moment, thousands of crew work-hours are being used in a very inefficient and analogue way.
My eMuster (Muster 2.0) invention is designed to be 100% digital.
The current need for manual scanning of key cards and the delivery of clunky speeches about life vests etc, can be made unnecessary and redundant (and could be deleted from the process entirely). These steps can and should be performed digitally. The arrival of a guest at their muster station can be tracked, geolocated and confirmed automatically, without the need for deploying dozens of crew members to do time consuming, repetitive manual work, standing on their feet all day.
(Additionally and/or alternatively, the presence of a guest in a muster station could also be confirmed using facial recognition).
This is the part of the patent that needs developing.
A successful, well designed app should allow its user to directly interact with autonomous software (and A.I.), without the need for an old fashioned analogue step with a human being. Imagine using a navigation app like WAZE, inputting the address that you want to go to, and a motorbike rider then arrives at your car and says: “Hi, follow me”… 😂. That would be ridiculous right? But that’s the equivalent of what we are currently doing.
The function of eMuster—as I intended when I created it—is for it to be a fully digital, fully automated system and fully in line with the norms of modern society…
You, your family and the app. That’s it.
It’s all on the page in the patent.
I also added an element of A.I. with facial recognition to my invention which will verify people’s identity to ensure the integrity of guest participation. (This will also cater to any family members without personal devices, like young kids).
BTW, each muster station can still have one crew member available to tie up any loose ends, answer any questions, or provide a service for die hard, “old school” guests who are resistant to adopting app based processes. (This would likely be phased out over time, as society continues to evolve).
The future of eMuster and guest friendly, crew friendly, highly efficient, highly effective onboard safety is bright, (…and, it’s ALL on the page 😉).
I love that @RoyalCaribbean adopted my invention quickly (and of course I’m fully aware that it was instrumental in allowing the cruise industry to restart during a global pandemic), but there is still a lot of work to do. It’s early days.
The true beauty of my invention is yet to be realized.

It’s a wonderful thing to create and produce entertainment events (and the associated technologies and venues), but #eMuster was a much needed reevaluation and reimagining of a century old, critical aspect of SOLAS.

Biggest development in safety-at-sea since the law that EVERY passenger gets a lifeboat/liferaft seat.

Very proud of this invention and the Worldwide Patent. It’s going to totally change the first day of a cruise, and it will vastly improve safety. It’s a smarter way to get the job done, much more efficient and more enjoyable for our guests. (It will be continually developed too).
