Heron’s automatons included statues that could move, pour libations, or perform other actions. These were often powered by falling weights or counterweights, similar to clockwork mechanisms.
One notable device was a statue of #Hercules shooting an arrow at a serpent, with the serpent hissing as it was struck, achieved through a combination of mechanical and pneumatic effects.
