It wasn’t my LAST bout, but I had the flu the week before we stared filming Matilda. I was so feverish I was hallucinating. I was better by the time we started shooting, but we ended up having to ADR most of my lines because I still sounded a little sick.
@DrPChouinard My son woke up with a low-grade fever and died that afternoon. Influenza B caused cardiac arrest. He was two and in perfect health. I knew the flu was serious. I didn't know the flu could do that.

(or was vaccinated and had milder symptoms because of it)
Most people will remember the EXACT week(s) they had their last bout with the flu.
@DrPChouinard @CZEdwards Twice. September 1995; three weeks until recovered, lost 14lbs and hearing in one ear. October 2001 two weeks to recover. Both times ended up in the ER. Fever so bad I had L-punctures to rule out meningitis. Flu shots religiously since and never had it since.

Mine was my first year of family medicine residency.
I still remember the ER doc taking one look at me dragging myself in that night and saying:
“You look worse than every single patient here. Go home.”
I obliged & took nearly a week to recuperate.

Flu can hurt, and it being "just" an emotional pain doesn't make that pain trivial. That was the first time in years I missed getting my flu shot, and it nearly cost me the chance to see a loved one that one last time.

Flu kills. It could have killed my mother and my mother-in-law, both immune-compromised by cancer. It cripples. It destroys lives.

I am so tired of hearing how influenza isn’t a “big deal” from anti vaccine forces. Personal stories can sway opinion. If facts did, we wouldn’t have falling vaccination rates. So if you have a #flustory to share please add it. Maybe it will change some minds. I’ll go 1st
This year my 1yo was hospitalized with febrile seizures from flu. Made full recovery in 48 hrs. Would most likely have been much worse had we not vaccinated. None of the rest of us got it because we all got the shot even though it’s not recommended for kids here in CH #flustory
