as human SEPT2 has been renamed as SEPTIN2 by HGNC @genenames using approved nomenclature would solve this issue (and presumably the problem with the other 12 SEPTINs) #genenames
🤯Because of Excel, a THIRD of all genetics papers published in top journals have errors, as many genes have names like SEPT2 (the official name of Septin 2), which Excel automatically makes dates.
The issue was found in 2016, but still hasn’t improved! https://t.co/9E46yk82cd

If you hadn't already realised, the origins of amusing #genenames is one of my favourite things to talk about. Did you know that there is a group of genes called the #Halloween genes, initially discovered in #DrosophilaMelanogaster? 🪰🎃 https://t.co/PDqPpo54q3

Our new blog post focuses on how #AlphaFold can be used to identify proteins with structural similarity but not necessarily a high level of sequence similarity. Guest post author @P450nelson shares images that beautifully demonstrate this: https://t.co/OchzMM4o0w #genenames
