Crossing the region and passing just south of Metro Manila on July 15–16, 2014, it unleashed violent winds and torrential rains 𝘁𝗵𝗮𝘁 𝗺𝗮𝗻𝘆 𝗰𝗼𝗺𝗽𝗮𝗿𝗲𝗱 𝘁𝗼 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗱𝗲𝘃𝗮𝘀𝘁𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗶𝗺𝗽𝗮𝗰𝘁 𝗼𝗳 𝗠𝗶𝗹𝗲𝗻𝘆𝗼 𝗶𝗻 𝟮𝟬𝟬𝟲. Tropical Cyclone Glenda (international name: Rammansun) formed over the Pacific on 11 July 2014 and entered the Philippine Area of Responsibility on 13 July. It intensified into a typhoon and made landfall in Rapu-Rapu, Albay at 5:00 PM and Tabaco, Albay at 6:30 PM on 15 July, packing winds of 155 km/h and gusts of 180 km/h. Overnight, its destructive eyewall struck the Bicol Region, Quezon, Laguna, Batangas, and southern Metro Manila. On 16 July, Glenda crossed CALABARZON and exited into the West Philippine Sea. The typhoon caused widespread blackouts, damaged homes and infrastructure, and later devastated Southern China and Vietnam. According to the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council, Typhoon Glenda affected 4.65 million people across several Philippine regions. The storm caused 106 deaths, 1,250 injuries, and damaged or destroyed over 600,000 houses. Total losses reached ₱38.6 billion, mainly in agriculture, making it one of the country’s costliest typhoons. The forecast track is very similar to 2006’s #MilenyoPH. I was 10 that time and t’was a traumatic experience. CALABARZON and MM were under SOC for months and almost 2/3 weeks no electricity. Then came #GlendaPh, #UlyssesPH, and now #PepitoPH. No direct hit sa MM and Cav 😭

PAGASA also noted that the possibility of reaching super typhoon is NOT ruled out before it makes landfall in Bicol Region or Eastern Visayas on Saturday, November 16. JUST IN: TY #Chaba (ex-#CaloyPH) has made landfall in #Guangdong Province, China (07Z). It is the strongest tropical cyclone to make landfall in the area since TY #Mangkhut (#OmpongPH) in Sept. 2018, and the strongest for the month of July since TY #Rammasun (#GlendaPH) in 2014.

Woah. TY #Rai (formerly #OdettePH) is the first tropical cyclone to re-intensify into a Category 4+ storm in the South China Sea (West Philippine Sea) since TY #Rammasun (#GlendaPH) in 2014. Since 1945, it is one of the only 11 storms to do so.

JUST IN: For the first time in six years, Metro Manila has been raised to Tropical Cyclone Wind Signal No. 3, due to Typhoon #RollyPH (#Goni). The last storm that it happened was during Typhoon #GlendaPH in 2014.

#Typhoon #Molave #QuintaPH now a bit disorganized as it traversed #Albay. It is expected to maintain its intensity as it will traverse Ragay Gulf and Tayabas Bay. Quite reminiscent of TYs #Rammasun (#GlendaPH) in 2014 and #Kammuri (#TisoyPH) in 2019.

Based on the recent run from models and forecasts from agencies, we can compare Typhoon #TisoyPH to what happened in TY #GlendaPH (2014). However, the northern part of the storm will have more rains this time because its amihan season.
