This weekend was horrific. I nearly packed advocacy in - but the last words one of the lads below said on Saturday to me were ‘love ya lysh’ 😭 He’s never said that. But I think it means I’ve kept my promise to him made when he was a small child at AYDC, who trusted me.
Usually, that would be very innapropriate- but these kids and I have journeyed through 7 years of torture to shine a light on their experiences. It is unlike any typical work experience.
At least 3 young lives were irreconcilably harmed, with one life tragically and traumatically lost.
2 others changed forever. All AYDC victim survivors.
One was a key case study in the @Tasmania_COI who has been an extraordinary help and inspiration to so many. Me very much one of them.
Nothing about this is black and white.
It is the impact of systemic child sexual abuse and harm.
It doesn’t need to be like this. We don’t need to destroy lives, and cause trauma, harm and fear that was so very present this past weekend.
The very thin silver lining is that we were able to ensure the safe and dignified surrender to not cause further harm. 😢 ❤️🥺🙏🌈
They are in pain and scared, in mourning- a brother and fellow survivor lost needlessly. Bonded over AYDC trauma. Before 1 of them tragically passed, they were laying sharing a bunk sleeping together like kids. 😭
Fuck it all, none of this needed to happen.
But don’t stress. None of the adults who raped them at AYDC are in custody.
Not fucking ONE. It has all been for nothing @jeremyrockliff. Do you know how much so many have and continue to give? Lives are being lost. Please, act. Urgently. I’m so relieved I was invited to help. Do that more @RockliffTeam - they trust me, and I will always have their backs. Thankyou @TasmaniaPolice for taking the path of least harm. 😭🙏 it was too late though. We needed that approach years ago. ❤️🥺

On this note, I will share that the young person who just wanted to be heard yesterday - was shut down in court by crown lawyers for decyp who argued for the dismissal of the application seeking leave to allow him to speak for the first and last time since shockingly removed from a loving home.
That’s correct, the Department responsible for Child Safety, sought to dismiss the application seeking answers and for the child to exercise their right to be involved in their own care instead of allowing that to occur.
The child alleges abuse in OOHC, and has successfully been silenced, for now.
I am of the view that no one acting in the best interests of a child that is not guilty, would openly and aggressively obstruct their last chance to have their voice heard.

LETS GO! Please show the Victim Survivors of Abuse in Tasmania that we care 🌈
I will be sharing a de identified short story about real young people or former young people and different parts of their journey, OR true accounts of gross misconduct that has demonstrably harmed young people (usually both) from Tasmania.
I will do this with consent, to demonstrate the enormous issues still at play post @Tasmania_COI (Tas needed a second royal commission),
but MOSTLY to share the tenacity, resilience, courage and hearts of gold that inspire me constantly 🥹
They have been or continue to be catastrophically failed by the very systems designed to keep them safe.
They are not allowed to publicly share their own life stories with their own names, if they been in OOHC or Ashley Youth Detention Centre.
Even as consenting adults who wish to speak about abuse they’ve suffered.
It will be called the #GotyourbackStack, and I’ll endeavor to share something each day until AYDC is closed, as promised to me personally by the most senior people in the State.
For now, all I can do is raise awareness to honour their stories of survival in any way.
They continue to inspire me daily, to keep going - and the horror motivates me to shine a light on it until the Victim Survivors can do so themselves.
