Thanks for the Q! Sue has changed A LOT since the original art. When I was pitching MISS QUINCES to publishers, Sue looked a bit too old for a middle grade story. She was also more of a nervous wreck and less confident than she is now😅 #GraphixTakeover

I love how much of the art tells the story. Coming from prose, I had to shift to a more visual way of thinking. It took some practice, but the end result was something amazing that only the comics medium can capture. 🎨:@mobydika

The Rise of the Black Panther series by Ta-Nehisi Coates, Evan Narcisse, Paul Renaud, and Javier Pina was a big part of my research! As was the first SHURI prose novel by @getnicced. This was my first deep dive into BP outside of the MCU, so I researched a lot!

My favorite part was a scene where Shuri and T'Challa face their deepest desires in the Heartlands. @NatachaBustos captured so beautifully the heartbreak of realizing you didn't know your sibling as well as you thought 😥 (1/2)

I was surprised by how much leeway I was given! These are characters that have meant so much to readers all around the world for decades. But from the beginning, the artists and I were given free reign to push the story above and beyond. #GraphixTakeover

Though this is my first comic ever, this isn't my first book! I've published a YA Fantasy duology, the first of which, A SONG OF WRAITHS AND RUIN, was an instant New York Times bestseller!

From the beginning, I knew I wanted to tell a story that centered on Shuri and T'Challa's sibling dynamic. Shuri is 12 and T'Challa around 17 in this book, so neither are quite the cool rulers we know they'll one day be. Even royal siblings bicker! #GraphixTakeover
