Telangana Government Demands ₹16 Lakh Refund from Rythu Bandhu beneficiary Do you think government should dig out more such cases and make all of these “rich” beneficiaries to cough up? In a significant move, the Telangana government has ordered a landowner to repay ₹16 lakh for fraudulently claiming Rythu Bandhu benefits on non-agricultural land. The notice was issued to M. Yadagiri Reddy of Pocharam village in Ghatkesar mandal, Medchal-Malkajgiri district. Reddy had illegally converted his 33 acres of agricultural land into plots and sold them, but continued to receive Rythu Bandhu payments. The fraudulent activity came to light when Medchal collector Gowtham Potru received a complaint and investigated the matter. The revenue department has invoked the Revenue Recovery Act to recover the funds, as the Rythu Bandhu scheme is intended solely for agricultural land. Despite converting the land, Yadagiri Reddy's property was still listed as agricultural in the Dharani land records, and he held pattadar passbooks. "Medchal collector Gowtham Potru found that the land was improperly listed as agricultural, which allowed Yadagiri Reddy to receive benefits," said Keesara Revenue Divisional Officer (RDO) Venkata Upender Reddy. This case highlights a broader issue in urban districts like Medchal-Malkajgiri, Rangareddy, and others, where agricultural land has been illegally converted without approvals from the Hyderabad Metropolitan Development Authority (HMDA) or the Director of Town and Country Planning (DTCP). The Medchal collector has now directed all tahsildars to verify Rythu Bandhu payments. Official sources estimate that Ghatkesar mandal has about 30,000 acres of agricultural land, yet payments have been made for 66,000 acres, indicating widespread discrepancies. Identifying and rectifying such fraudulent claims is a substantial challenge. Officials suggest collaboration between the revenue, agriculture, panchayat raj, and registration departments to ensure accurate distribution of Rythu Bandhu benefits. #RythuBandhu #Irregularities #Telangana
