MASSACRE IN #HOUYA SERI VILLAGE,
RAKHINE STATE
This photographic annex contains visual documentation obtained three months
after the 2 May 2024 massacre in Houya Seri village (also known as Hoyasuri or
#Htan Shauk Kan village), located in Buthidaung Township, Rakhine State,
Myanmar. The images were captured by the sole surviving member of his family,
their identity is withheld to protect privacy. On the date of the incident, forces
of the #Arakan Army #killed at least 600 Rohingya civilians, including children,
elderly persons, women—among them pregnant women—and persons with
disabilities. Additional documentation from other external sources, such as
Progressive Voice Weekly Highlights2 supports the occurrence of the massacre.
The photographs serve as unique direct visual evidence of the scale, nature, and
aftermath of the violations committed, and form part of the broader body of
documentation substantiating the systematic targeting of #Rohingya civilians in
Rakhine State.
The following description applies to all photographs listed below: The
photographs were taken by the sole surviving member of his family, their identity
is withheld to protect privacy, three months after the massacre and were released
after he migrated to Bangladesh.
