My grandmother attended @ECSU and came home to build a 30 year career in education. She changed lives including mine. #vikingpride #hb383 #hughcale #TEACHERAppreciationWeek2021

Elizabeth City State Colored Normal School was est. by the NC General Assembly on March 3, 1891, as a two-year normal school for the “teaching and training of teachers of the colored race to teach in the common schools of NC." Happy #TeachersAppreciationDay Tag Viking teachers.

128 years ago, on March 3, 1891, Hugh Cale, an African-American representative in the N.C. General Assembly from Pasquotank County, sponsored House Bill 383, establishing what was then called Elizabeth City State Colored Normal School (1891-1939). #VikingPride
