Here is another intriguing mystery of the #ArmenianHighlands: The #Hurrians predated the #Urartians by about 2000 years, yet the #Urartian language seems older than #Hurrian. That’s right - although Urartian is considered a sister language to Hurrian, it appears that Urartian did not evolve from Hurrian. When linguists analyzed both languages, they found that archaic Hurrian resembled Urartian more than the later evolved versions. How the Iron Age ancestors of the Armenians spoke an older form of a Bronze Age language remains another mystery.
