The Seminar on Capacity Building in Poverty Reduction of Small and Medium Enterprises and NGOs for Developing Countries, hosted by the Ministry of Commerce and organized by the International Poverty Reduction Center in China (#IPRCC), was held from June 27 to July 10. Karim Alhaj Afifi, a participant from the program and a representative of UNIDO’s Egypt office, published an article on Egypt’s “Youm7” news website upon his return and gave very high appraisal of the program. Afifi noted that the seminar brought him together with outstanding individuals from around the world to China, where they discussed the challenges and opportunities in poverty reduction. Apart from commending China’s poverty reduction strategies, he also emphasized in his article that the visit inspired hope and proved that eradicating poverty is an achievable goal through determination, conviction, and effort.
On June 27, 2024, the Seminar on Capacity Building in Poverty Reduction of Small and Medium Enterprises and NGOs for Developing Countries, hosted by the Ministry of Commerce and organized by the International Poverty Reduction Center in China (#IPRCC), officially kicked off in Beijing. Jie Ping, Deputy Director General of IPRCC, delivered a welcome speech. Mr. Sanjeewa Wimalagunarathna, Director General of the National Secretariat for Non-Governmental Organizations of Sri Lanka, spoke on behalf of the participants.
The 14-day seminar welcomed 37 officials from poverty reduction, public security, and public service departments across eight countries, including South Africa, Nigeria, Lesotho, Egypt, Pakistan, Uzbekistan, Jordan, and Sri Lanka. During the program, participants also conducted field visits to Nanning and Baise in #Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region.
On the morning of 12 October 2024, Mr. Liu Junwen, Director General and Ms. Li Xin, Deputy Director General of the International Poverty Reduction Center in China (#IPRCC), met with the delegation of the Ministry of Social Development and Assistance, Family and Fight against Hunger of Brazil, led by its Executive Secretary Mr. Osmar Ribeiro de Almeida Júnior.
Mr. Liu Junwen reviewed the poverty reduction cooperation between #China and #Brazil and introduced China's fight against extreme poverty and strategies for advancing rural revitalization across the board. Ms. Li Xin briefed on the work of the Chinese government in supporting the establishment of the Global Alliance Against Hunger and Poverty initiated by Brazil. Mr. Osmar Ribeiro de Almeida Júnior expressed hope that the two sides could further strengthen exchanges and cooperation in poverty reduction and development. #povertyreduction
At the invitation of the World Bank Beijing Office, Mr. Liu Junwen, Director General of the International Poverty Reduction Centre in China (#IPRCC), had a thematic discussion in Beijing on the afternoon of September 6 with the delegation of World Bank Central Asia Country Management Unit led by Ms. Tatiana A. Proskuryakova, Country Director for Central Asia. Mr. Liu Junwen systematically introduced the achievements and experiences of China in poverty reduction and rural development, as well as the poverty reduction cooperation between China and Central Asian countries. Ms. Mara K. Warwick, Country Director for China, Mongolia, and Korea Country, participated in the event. From August 26 to 30, 2024, Dr. Liu Junwen, Director General of the International Poverty Reduction Center in China (#IPRCC), led a delegation to Tashkent, Uzbekistan, to attend the 9th Annual High-Level Meeting of the Multidimensional Poverty Peer Network. During the event, Liu delivered a keynote speech on China's targeted #povertyalleviation practice and experience. Liu also attended a working meeting at the Embassy of China in Uzbekistan.
The meeting was co-hosted by the Center for Economic Research and Reform under the Administration of the President of the Republic of Uzbekistan, the Oxford Poverty and Human Development Initiative, and the United Nations Development Programme Uzbekistan Office. Senior representatives from over 20 countries and 8 international organizations participated in the event.

From July 21 to 26, 2024, Mr. Liu Junwen, Director General of the International Poverty Reduction Centre in China (#IPRCC), led a delegation to #Malaysia to carry out poverty reduction exchange and cooperation.
The working group investigated the development of the chili pepper industry in the vicinity of Putrajaya, conducted field research on a series of social welfare projects in Kuala Lumpur, and investigated land development projects and the development of fishing villages and fishery in Kuantan City, Pahang, and responded to the concerns of the Malaysian side. #povertyreduction
