Just finished rebuilding my entire home network.
Goal: Fast trusted network for gaming/TVs/PCs + fully isolated network for cameras, lock & thermostats.
The router and switch fought me for hours. Router kept coming back with old settings or only power light. Switch status light stayed flashing amber no matter what.
After endless resets and patience… we won.
Key wins:
Proper segmentation between main devices and IoT
Client isolation so cameras can’t talk to each other
QoS so bursts from cameras don’t kill gaming ping
Unused ports disabled
DNS privacy turned on
Moral of the story: “Factory reset” sometimes means nothing. Keep going.
