GST - Let's raise it says #KateChaney
šŗ NOISY TAKE: THE GST REBRAND THAT GIVES
EVERYONE A LOLLIPOP ā EVEN GINA
Kate Chaney proposed the idea to raise the GST to 15%, scrap exemptions for food, health, and education ā and make it fair by giving every adult $3,300.
Sounds bold, right?
Until you remember Gina Rinehart is also an adult.
Letās do the maths:
$92.5 billion raised by hiking the GST and removing exemptions
$68.8 billion spent handing every adult $3,300
That leaves about $24 billion left over
And hereās the kicker:
š” If the goal is $24 billion, why not just tax the top
end and be done with it?
Why build a Rube Goldberg tax machine that slugs everyone 15% on groceries, just to spit out the same result with triple the admin and double the pain?
Thatās like boiling the ocean to make a cup of tea ā then giving everyone a free mug to make it feel fair.
And while the rich pocket their rebate and move on, the poor?
Theyāre now paying 15% more on bread, tampons, schoolbooks and medicine.
Sure, they might get it back later ā but the pain hits at the checkout, not tax time.
And if you run a business?
Car? GST-deductible.
Laptop? Deductible.
And if Dutton had got in, lunches and lingerie dancers
Factory bog roll that ends up in your ensuite? Donāt ask, donāt tell.
This isnāt progressive. Itās policy cosplay.
A regressive tax hike dressed in a rebate costume and pretending itās equity.
Efficiency isnāt justice.
Flat taxes donāt lift the bottom.
And ābold reformā doesnāt mean handing Gina a cheque just because Jake needs one.

ā
TL;DR
Why build a giant machine to raise $92.5B, hand $68.8B straight back to everyone (including the wealthy), just to end up with $24B... when you could just tax the top end directly and get the same result without the economic and administrative backflips?
#TaxReform
#Independent #KateChaney wants to Increase #GST to 15% and expanding it to more things. Then she will offer you a bribe to convince you to accept it. Shades of #JohnHoward removing ALL Taxes. We know how that ended up

@ChaneyforCurtin Time to make universities liable for the HECS debts of these deadbeat "future critical thinkers", so they stop offering shit degrees in gay race Communism that actually damage our country. #auspol #KateChaney
Despite Gina Rinehartās best efforts, her local Federal MP remains a TEAL. āŗļø #auspol

#Dutton called Kate Chaney "Hardcore Green".
#KateChaney: Daughter of Chancellor of Uni of WA, niece of WA Supreme Court Justice, niece of a Liberal Senate Leader.
She should be Liberal Party royalty - the fact she isn't should make them think.
But won't.

@Peter_Fitz Curtin here. #TomWhiteLiberal plastered everywhere but independent #KateChaney and Greens getting traction. Had to queue but not for long.

@JaneCaro And Curtin. Majority YES , now another blue ribbon seat lost by the Libs. Thank you #KateChaney
@LindaBronte5 Iām proud to be in one of the handful of electorates that voted YES. Once a Liberal stronghold, Curtin is now firmly in the hands of the centre through the admirable work of #KateChaney, an inclusive MP whoā¦.wait for itā¦. Listens to her constituents.
Kate Chaney MP won the award of Democratic Innovator 2023 by Apolitical Foundation. Both of us were first-term MP elected in 2022 but i am impressed by the progress she made so far.
Congrats!

This political cartel disgusts me.

Citizens like #Richard_D_Boyle and
David McBride save our liberal democracy from cronyism and authoritarianism - they should be honoured not persecuted.

Much more could be done but this a a very good step in a very healthy direction.
Parties would come under a cloud if they didnāt pass this.

Awesome speech - such a shame there was so many empty seats. #Dutton and the #Liberal party take note of where your backward looking conservatism and #National Party pandering has taken you. #KateChaney, this inspiring future leader could have been yours. https://t.co/Gyce7tZVWY
