The $10 million" yearly appropriation in #LB1402 is troubling as it binds future legislatures, like recently passed tax policy, that will make a harsh reality for the #neleg in 2027 and beyond. #LB1402 also requires tracking and yet another report by the State Treasurer.

Is that what #LB1402 requires? Didn't get that impression, since it's about money laundering through wealthy tax rebates, and not "direct" funding of private schools. No strings attached, true?

@AngieLauritsen If Private Schools get public Tax dollars, then they are subject to ALL RULES AND REGULATIONS that Public Schools are subject too! I can't wait until they come under the scrutiny of the State.

@kohenari Every once in awhile they get a headline right, though. Pillen picked "taxpayers" over children's justice. Where was that selective concern when supporting #LB1402 or #LB753? #LB574? #LB77? #LB388? Proposed sales tax increase? Favor "taxpayers" always or never, but be consistent

#NeLeg About 1/2 the counties in Nebraska do NOT have a private school. Do rural Nebraskans who vote Republican get it yet?Voting Republican is voting against your own best interests. Nebraska Republicans r now going to give your tax dollars to private schools in other counties.

Seems Linehan would rather give up on her precious #LB388 just to get to her more precious #LB1402. The message is she would rather a select few donors receive a big tax rebate for her pet project than provide relief to greater Nebraska.

Erdman self proclaims his advocacy for "School Choice" like #LB753/#LB1402 is a new concept, when real school choice has been state policy since 1990, IF the target school has room. Like many entitlements and "choices", the "right" to pursuit of happiness does not guarantee such.

Sen. Conrad shares some actual facts and statistics regarding decision making timeline for whether #LB753 remains or not on the ballot. Personally, I don't see how mere passage of #LB1402 can annul an established and certified referendum vote on #LB753. 753 by any other name...

Sen. Raybould puts it succinctly: No #LB1402 bypass preventing the people's vote on #LB753. We let other referendums go full distance: voter ID, Medicaid, minimum wage, etc.

Why is no one mentioning that under IDEA, if a public school cannot provide a free and appropriate education, that child can go to private school on the public's dime. That is federal law. LB1402 not about what is best for the children. @NebraskaMegan @TonyVargas #neleg #LB1402
