This example is one of the few preserved examples of “lorica segmentata” Roman armor. It’s actually multiple sets of segmentata, possibly up to 3 whole cuirasses.
It is from the “Corbridge Hoard”, a chest found in the administrative area of a Roman fort in Corbridge England in 1964. The chest & its contents date to between AD 122-138.
This find was significant bc we had no well preserved or such complete examples of lorica segmentata prior. It gave us the details on how they were made and functioned. We also have a great example from the Teutoberg forest massacre. #rome #loricasegmentata #romanarmor #rome

Some 6,000 pieces of chain mail have been unearthed in the ancient Roman colony of Deultum, near the Black Sea coast in Bulgaria.
The armor (4th-6th century AD), which includes two well-preserved sleeves, was found inside the remains of a wooden chest.
