Everyone enamored with #midcenturymodern #prefabricated #Lustron Homes overlooks the fact Lustron was a massive failure. Lustron shipped 2500 homes before it went bankrupt. Competitors such as #USSteelHomes & #NationalHomes shipped 1000 prefabricated homes a MONTH. Most home buyers wanted a nice traditional Ranch style home that fit into their suburban neighborhood. A perfect Lustron in #LakeCity Iowa.

For Tesla wanabes - a cautionary tale. https://t.co/K2l07Rpsjb Lustron - 1947-1950. Manufacturing is insanely difficult ( to quote @elonmusk ). Note the Tucker 48 automobile in the drive - another grand vision gone bad. #Lustron #prestontucker #tesla #rivian #lucent

Ever wondered what it's like to live in a house made of steel? 21 residents of #Erie live in these futuristic-like houses made by #Lustron Corporations in the late 1940s. https://t.co/wzjZFlew66

Lustron homes were manufactured in the late 1940s to solve a housing shortage after American soldiers returned home from fighting WWII. Only 2,498 were ever made. Cincinnati has at least one freshly renovated Lustron home still standing. https://t.co/17Tz7Xy8fn

Mid-century fans, behold, your all-steel Lustron Home is waiting. Spotted this post-WWII gem today in #NewBern, NC. Only about 2,500 of these cutting edge and Baby Boomer focused steel homes were built before the company went bust in 1950. #HouseHunters #Lustron #MidCentury

Finished the #Lustron build in #TheSims4 today! It's a real home that was a gvmnt-funded project after WW2 to provide inexpensive housing for the returning GI's. What makes them special is that they are made completely from steel coated in ceramic. Inside and out. #thesims #ts4

After a decade in Pittsburgh and nearly as much time buying and selling houses I’d never come across one of these. When I saw this strange house scouting around in Avalon I knew it was something else - just didn’t know it was a #Lustron house

Going about #TheSims4 in the most nerdy way possible. I've been studying national archives and visiting museums to build period-correct homes on stream. It's incredibly challenging, which is counter intuitive. I love it. #thesims #historical #1950s #builder #lustron
