However, even if @AbiyAhmedAli is removed from power by Ethiopians🇪🇹 and/or Eritreans🇪🇷, #Eritrea could still find itself dealing with another #Meles or another #AbiyAhmed unless it changes course. #Ethiopia's🇪🇹 economy continues to grow in size, despite its corruption. #Eritrea's🇪🇷 economy, on the other hand, is not. We don’t even know how big or small it is. 🤷♂️

Hasn’t it already stopped a possible war between the two peoples, the Tigrayans🇪🇹 and Eritreans🇪🇷? @AbiyAhmedAli was going to use the land to attack #Eritrea, as #Meles did. Also, stop accusing #Eritrean forces. They have not committed atrocities in #Tigray. Even the majority of #Tigrayans are not accusing #Eritrea of that. That is why reconciliation is happening now. Some #TPLF militias attacked Eritrean forces from churches then, and they defended themselves. You do not seem happy about the reconciliation between the two peoples. Give credit to 🇪🇷 where it is due. Opposing everything, regardless of context, is not productive.

Under the banner of promoting peace and reconciliation among all ethnic groups in the Horn of Africa, the Eritrean regime has gradually positioned itself at the core of a series of politically orientated regional gatherings. The true goal appears to be reshaping the regional power structure rather than advancing ethnic coexistence.
At the core of all cross-border cooperation initiatives is the "Tsemdo Process". This term stems from the Tigrinya language, which originates from the traditional practice of pairing two oxen to plough farmland. It first emerged in the #Eritrea-#Tigray border communities after the fall out between Isaias and Abiy. It has newly expanded to include selected representatives from #Ethiopian communities such as #Gambela, #Benishangul-Gumuz, and Eastern #Sudan, as was the case in a recent meeting.
At the Eritrea-affiliated gathering held in Port Sudan, two of the event's speaking attendees, Andergatchew Tsige (An Amhara) and Prof. Mohamed Hassen (an Ethiopian Somali), are former allies of the Eritrean government during the rule of #Ethiopia's former ruling coalition, the Ethiopian People's Revolutionary Democratic Front (#EPRDF), as well as longstanding supporters who have consistently upheld the Eritrean government's official narrative. The event was overseen by Eritrea's ambassador to Sudan, Isa Ahmed Isa, who is a senior figure in the Eritrean Security Services.
Efforts to rebuild trust between Eritrea and the Tigray community are praiseworthy in principle; in communal conflicts across the Horn of Africa, hostility among ordinary civilians rarely arises spontaneously and is, in most cases, driven by the agendas of political elites and rival states. However, the current reconstruction process is neither neutral nor independently initiated and run by grassroots groups but is entirely controlled by the Eritrean government, which decides its launch and conclusion based on its own strategic calculations.
There has never been hostility among the people of the Horn. Whether in Tigray or elsewhere, the rhythm is set not by the people themselves but by the Eritrean regime. Genuine reconciliation demands accountable governance on all sides. The Eritrean regime, which is not even at peace with its population and which committed grave atrocities against the #Tigrayan people from 2020 to 2022, cannot be trusted to bring peace between the Tigrayan and Eritrean people, let alone bring peace among the peoples of the Horn of Africa.
Behind the many public reconciliation narratives related to Ethiopia lies a clear reality of geopolitical competition: according to reports, officials from Eritrea and Sudan, representatives of the #TPLF and #OLA, and of the #Fano faction held meetings in Sudan and Tigray with the aim of overthrowing the government led by Ethiopia’s prime minister. The gathering at Port Sudan is far from a peace initiative and merely cloaks this political coordination effort in a veneer of peace.
The peace process linked to the Tigray conflict has a notable power imbalance: the TPLF has limited influence because part of its territory is occupied by Eritrean troops, while the Ethiopian federal government, despite nominally controlling border areas, has abandoned it. Communities along border areas have long been constrained by competing sovereign states and armed actors, leaving their mobility, interpersonal connections, and economic survival trapped in persistent uncertainty.
Lasting reconciliation in the Horn of Africa cannot be achieved relying solely on symbolic meetings and carefully planned dialogues. True reconciliation and freedom of movement will only be possible under democratic and accountable governments in Eritrea, Ethiopia, and Sudan.
