Whenever I’m on a longer trip, I like to listen to audiobooks to pass the traveling time on airplanes and elsewhere. Had seen a few people chattering about this book on Twitter and decided to give it a shot. Quite fascinating, and the term #MemoryDividends will stick with me. I’ve always found it more natural for my personality to save heavily, rather than to spend heavily. Part of that is upbringing; part of that is probably irrational paranoia about future unknowns. This book reminds you that you have just one life to live and being the richest person in the cemetery counts for nothing. Spending money on family trips, creating lifelong memories while healthy, is worth more than a few more percentage points of investment gains. As is giving money to charities and heirs while you’re still living. Of course, this type of message won’t apply to everyone’s situations, but for a certain group of us, it can be a helpful nudge in the right direction.
GF and I went on a multi-state auto rally with 30 or so of our close friends. That’s my white Ferrari behind us, we were on Team Cheetah.
