NCNED research fellow, Dr Kiran Thapaliya, was invited to present at the @RenegadeRes International Research Roundtable for #MECFS.
Dr Thapaliya’s presentation shared NCNED’s findings from 3T and 7T MRI studies identifying brain stem impairments in both #pwMECFS and #pwLC.
A brief summary of my lightning talk at yesterday's @RenegadeRes roundtable. In my talk, I proposed criteria for evaluating hypotheses on the role of spinal conditions in #MECFS and outlined an inflow/outflow hypothesis that seeks to meet these criteria. 1/8
Why the brainstem? Brainstem inflammation can cause multisystemic symptoms because the vagus nuclei located there serve as the central hub for innervating all internal organs Neurons extend to every organ and inflammation is transmitted, leading to widespread symptoms #LongCovid
