@lau_wils @109deb @RoryFitzESS Up to a point. There are some questions where “don’t know” is a valid answer, and if you don’t provide that option you contaminate the mid-point of the range. Seen this result myself and it came up last night too #methodsem

My favourite remark from this #methodsem on “Don’t Know”: “Questionnaire designers have to think about it question by question” Definitely agree, and do some cognitive interviewing to find out which questions might need a “don’t know”

Really enjoyed this #methodsem on Don’t Know. Tl;dr if you ask people challenging questions then you’ll have a high rate of “don’t know” so give people that option If the question is easy they are likely to know so it doesn’t matter
