At the #INA Memorial Complex at #Moirang, a golden inscription on a massive marble slab lists the names of 198 freedom fighters from #Manipur who joined the #AzadHindFauj in the battle for Indian liberation. Of these 198 recognized patriots, 170 belong to the #Kuki Community, alongside 26 #Meiteis and 2 #Bengalis, which serves a striking testimony to the extraordinary commitment of this Hill community to the National Movement. Despite these monumental sacrifices, the post-Independence era brought new geopolitical challenges. As Colonial Authorities drew new international boundaries in 1947, 1948, and 1972, they partitioned the #AncestralLands of the #Kukis across three modern Nations: #India, #Myanmar, and #Bangladesh. This tri-border division fragmented a once-unified warrior Community into minority populations across different Nations, creating long-term political vulnerabilities where community members sometimes faced marginalization on the very lands their #Ancestors defended. In response to these geographical and socio-political shifts, Leaders established the 𝐊𝐔𝐊𝐈 𝐍𝐀𝐓𝐈𝐎𝐍𝐀𝐋 𝐀𝐒𝐒𝐄𝐌𝐁𝐋𝐘 in 1946 to advocate for democratic representation within #India. Over the decades, #Kuki Leaders actively participated in India’s parliamentary system, beginning with 𝐒𝐇𝐑𝐈 𝐏𝐀𝐎𝐊𝐀𝐈 𝐇𝐀𝐎𝐊𝐈𝐏 entering the #LokSabha in 1967, followed by MPs such as 𝐍. Biren Singh to #Moirang, organized by a Meitei society from #Churachandpur, sparked tensions, leading to an attack the next day at #Tronglaobi by some miscreants. Blaming the #Kuki community for the attack is baseless and should be condemned. The situation worsened as Biren visited the area both before and after the lapse of violence. @kzc2024
