Since #MSRDC has not started work on JNPT Package 18—from the #Morbe tunnel to #Panvel’s Palspe Phata—the #Delhi-#Mumbai Expressway will not help reduce traffic in the #Thane region.
As a result, the #Virar–#JNPT Spur is expected to become operational only up to Badlapur, possibly by December 2026. This means the #Badlapur–#Kalyan belt will gain connectivity to #Nashik, Chh.#Sambhajinagar, #Nagpur via #Samruddhi #Mahamarg , and potentially even #Surat, #Vadodara, and Delhi once the route is complete.
However, the stretch from Kalyan to Badlapur will remain disconnected from the #Pune Expressway, #Goa Highway, #NaviMumbai Airport, and South Mumbai via #MTHL because the 12 km Morbe–Palspe Phata section exists only on paper. Until Package 18 is executed, heavy trucks will continue to congest Ghodbunder Road and the Thane–Belapur corridor, making the Spur of limited use.

I had already indicated that #Konkan would experience normal rainfall spells, which is quite typical for July's climatology. However, I've noticed many inquiries regarding alerts, perhaps fueled by the expectation of more extreme events.
Personally, I refrain from providing live, minute-by-minute commentary for what are essentially normal passing rain spells. Such events have been occurring for centuries, and generating panic by constantly highlighting them, simply by looking at radar, isn't my approach. The current 'hype' surrounding every rain shower seems to be a recent social media trend, and as an old-school blogger, I prefer to maintain a more measured and traditional perspective on weather communication.

As mentioned earlier, a wet weekend in store for north konkan. A fresh LPA forming over east MP, combined with the third #Monsoon2025 Surge will result in a strong pull effect, giving moderate-heavy #MumbaiRains with few very heavy downpours. Offshore #trough will also come into play.
Amber warnings 🟠 issued for #Mumbai #Thane #NaviMumbai #Palghar and #Raigad for few spells of heavy - very heavy rains likely to cause minor disruptions. This will also be coupled with gusty 30-50 kmph winds 🌬️
Saturday and Sunday likely to be rainiest days with longer spells. 2 day accumulation of 70-170 mm with rains likely to be evenly split between both days. While 200 mm in one day is unlikely, a few spots can get very heavy 100mm+ in 24 hrs this weekend. Monday looks to be more showery due to dry air intrusion.
Also, catchments including ghats are likely to score some big 200-300mm numbers this weekend, so expect another good jump in water stock in next few days 💧

Wednesday 2nd, likely to be a rainy day for #Mumbai, suburbs, #Thane #NaviMumbai with intermittent moderate - heavy #MumbaiRains with isol very heavy spells. Total 2 day accumulation (2-3 Jul) for MMR likely to be 100-200 mm, most of which is expected on Wednesday.
4th will see a reduction again, with another heavy spell likely from 6th July.
Regarding the extremely heavy Mumbai downpours, there's been a change in dates, and the next possibility is now around 6/7 July.

On Tuesday and Wednesday, intensity will reduce slightly, but moderate to heavy showers will continue under a strong monsoon surge with gusty winds towards the coast 🌬️. Thursday can again see a slight increase in rains.
With strong westerlies, ghats and catchments should start receiving worthwhile rainfall this week. On average konkan coast can see 20-80mm daily between 17-19th.
#Marathwada, #Vidarbha and Madhya Maha including #Pune will see a reduction in thunderstorms activities as westerlies strengthen, leading to typical monsoon weather for interiors - Cloudy skies with passing light-mod showers and breezy conditions.
