Cas van Erp's paper on the extragalactic diffuse interstellar bands (xDIBs) in NGC 6240 has now appeared in @AandA_journal. The first real map of two of these very faint interstellar absorption features in a galaxy at such large distance. #xDIBs #DIBs #NGC6240 #musevlt

The first extragalactic maps of the faint diffuse interstellar bands (DIBs) in a galaxy at a distance of 100 Mpc (van Erp et al. 2503.17492). Great work written up by a student in Leiden. I could help a bit with the MUSE data. #xDIBs #DIBs #NGC6240 #musevlt

Just can't stop looking at the newest MUSE Deep Fields from MUSCATEL on the Hubble Frontier parallels (soon with JWST!). Left MUSE reconstructed BVI, right HST F435W,F606W,F814W. You can see stuff down to 26th-27th mag easy. And of course every pixel has a spectrum!

For NGC 474 we at least show that even at distances beyond 30 Mpc it's not hopeless. (But it would be helpful to point near the center where one can see more PNe...) #musevlt #PNLF 5/5

One of the galaxies that we re-analyzed was NGC 1380. Here we go through the wavelength bins around the [OIII]5007 emission line to see the PNe at different redshifts. #musevlt 3/5
