@cobbaltt My internal conviction regarding the #ஆய்தம் #NamedEntity is that it was originally #NOTwritten. Teachers were trying to describe some subtle difference. Similarly the people who invented IPA were trying to improve their #Phonetics descriptive power but not to reform orthography.

@cobbaltt @VineethRajan9 @Kartrag4991 @bharathanrd A possible question is whether #āytam is a phoneme or a distinctive feature. The #Tolkāppiyam says it is not 1 of the 30 எழுத்து BUT 1 of the சார்ந்து வரன் மரபின் மூன்று LATER referred to as #சார்பெழுத்து. It was initially NOT written but was a #NamedEntity i.e. an abstraction.

The #தொல்காப்பியம் declares that Tamil possesses 12 vowels, 18 consonants & 3 others referred to as சார்ந்துவரன்மரபின் மூன்று "three which which are not standalone" i.e. சார்பெழுத்து but writing all the 33 is a different problem ...

The topic is the realization of the #interjection "au!" also as "au-u!"´, as "au-au!" ;-)
