AUTHORITY: The appointed voice of truth and wisdom. A reason for believing we know more than we do. The voice of authority is needed to make the evidence sound like it speaks for itself when it doesn’t.

OPINION: A most effective means of announcing our ignorance to others. An elaboration of feelings about facts we vaguely know and understand. Shared opinions can sustain collusions of ignorance and prompt resounding choruses of the equal and opposite.

CAUSATION: A rationale maintaining that everything can be explained by something else - a half truth - as if by calling one thing a 'cause' and the other an 'effect' we can explain the difference (the change from cause to effect) by citing the cause as proof.
