Claudiopolis' famous son Antinous In #Kios, Antinous' was equated with Pan [ΠANI ANTINOΩ], in #Corinth with #Hermes and #Bellerophon, #Ancyra and #Nicopolis praise him as the deified #Antinous [ANTINOOΣ ΘΕOΣ or ANTINOON ΘΕON] and many cities equated him with #Dionysos. In #Egypt, the cult of #Antinous saw him as an avatar of Hermes-Thoth, a messenger between mortals and the gods. Elsewhere, he was seen in another guise, as Hermes Nomios [the protector of pastures and shepherds], or the Herdsman. As defender of the herd or flock, #Hermes brought forth fecundity and prosperity, just as Antinous would bring good fortune to those who did him honor.

A commemorative series of coins was issued in Bithynium Claudiopolis in honour of Antinous, with the inscription is Η ΠΑΤΡΙΣ ΑΝΤΙΝΟΟΝ ΘΕΟΝ, that is, " His native country (reverences) the god Antinous". Mantinea in Arcadia was the other main centre of Antinous worship, which was traditionally regarded as Bithynium's mother city. Like Bithynium, Mantinea also had a stadium for the integral Hadrianeia Antinoeia games. During his visit to Mantinea, Pausanias reported that a room in the gymnasium contained multiple Antinous statues, most of which were conflated with Dionysus. He also mentions a temple, the institution of annual mysteries, and quadrennial games.
