Today begins National Marijuana Facts Week! National Marijuana Facts Week (#NMFW) is an annual, week-long, national health observance created by Johnny’s Ambassadors Youth THC Prevention to raise public awareness about the dangers of today’s high potency marijuana and THC products on adolescent brain development, mental illness, and suicidality.
The week-long observance kicks off with a “bang” on Friday, July 4 and symbolically culminates on 710 Anti-Dab Day, Thursday, July 10 (Anti-710 Dab Day). NMFW was created by Johnny’s Ambassadors to encourage education in communities so teens can learn what science has taught us about the harms of youth THC use, addiction, and the development of mental illness.
NMFW brings together parents, students, educators, doctors, scientists, and community partners to save our youth from the harms of today’s high-potency THC products. We aim to decrease the perception of harmlessness and reduce the use of THC by young people.
To kick off National Marijuana Facts Week, we remind teens that no dispensary products are approved as medicine by the FDA! NOT ONE. Don't be fooled by misinformation! Just because the industry calls it "medicine" doesn't mean it's safe for developing brains. FDA approved medications are prescribed by a doctor and obtained in a pharmacy, never from a pot doc "recommendation" in a dispensary. There is no safe level of THC use for brains under 30 years old!
The American Psychiatric Association (APA) states on its website, "There is no current scientific evidence that cannabis is in any way beneficial for the treatment of any psychiatric disorder. In contrast, current evidence supports, at minimum, a strong association of cannabis use with the onset of psychiatric disorders. Adolescents are particularly vulnerable to harm, given the effects of cannabis on neurological development."
