Oops I'm invited to a #NotSoEqualVoice event and I feel unsettled and baffled as to why I'm invited, while getting flashbacks of the white supremacy horrors that young racialized staff and some of the #DaughtersoftheVote experienced. What did Equal Voice do about that again? 🥲
Does no one pay attention to, or even remember #notsoequalvoice? Even while it was happening media was still using them as sources. What short and subjective memories.
tb to when y’all fired all the Black staff for calling out your white supremacy #NotSoEqualVoice
2/2 This month, & every month, we recognize the stories & contributions of Black Canadians to Canada & the importance of addressing systemic barriers facing Black Canadians, including in #cdnpoli, towards a more just & inclusive society.
The best thing about the pandemic is another group of people didn't have to go through DoV #notsoequalvoice
@ young women of colour, DO NOT apply to this program! #notsoequalvoice
Start the weekend on a strong note- apply to be a #DOV2021 delegate! https://t.co/j5YNQALPar
Deadline is Oct 1, 2020
This issue echoes that of the #notsoequalvoice campaign. Another organization centred on women with a focus on gender parity in politics, yet failed to provide inclusive spaces to their racialized staff. 6/14

What's even more gross is they threw in the words "gender diverse" in their apology only to completely leave out the same language in their "strategic plan." They co-opted equitable language in a fake statement of solidarity #notsoequalvoice
Not once does it mention how it will actually better support BIPOC folks in politics. There is literally no outline of how they will make these spaces safer including their own. They didn't even outline how they would do better for BIPOC delegates at DOV #notsoequalvoice
There was NOT a single point that specifically discussed Indigenous women and gender diverse people. Instead it peddled the same bs rhetoric the organization has always pushed "more women in politics" #notsoequalvoice
@EqualVoiceCA released 8 pages of their "strategic plan" to show that they stand with Black women and gender diverse people. Yet there wasn't a single point or plan that mentioned Black women and gender diverse people. #notsoequalvoice
Who has @EqualVoiceCA apologized to? Not DoV delegates and not the BIPOC staff they fired SO...??? Having a PoC Chair literally means nothing when your whole organization is built on white supremacy??? #NotSoEqualVoice
Also wondering how you plan on doing better in the future when you have yet to be accountable for the harm done in the past. "The past 18 months have been times of extraordinary upheaval and change at Equal Voice." Was the change firing all of your Black staff? #notsoequalvoice
Hey @EqualVoiceCA does this plan look like acknowledging the violence myself, @blkmess and other Black femmes faced while working for you? And by acknowledging I mean a formal apology and reparations. Because last time I checked you threaten to sue us instead #notsoequalvoice

“We acknowledge and apologize for the harm experienced by some delegates who took part in our Daughters of the Vote program, as well as former Board, staff” LMFAO this is your apology??? #notsoequalvoice

#BlackLivesMatter in Canada, the U.S., and everywhere in the world. // La vie des Noirs compte ici au Canada, aux États-Unis, et partout dans le monde.
A Black woman @blkmess told you that she was facing so much anti-Black racism from her manger that it was affecting her mental health. Your response? You put the Black woman on a forced leave. #notsoequalvoice
#BlackLivesMatter in Canada, the U.S., and everywhere in the world. // La vie des Noirs compte ici au Canada, aux États-Unis, et partout dans le monde.
How dare you @EqualVoiceCA try and hop on the bandwagon of supporting Black lives when you actively contributed to the violence against Black women. #notsoequalvoice
When myself and @blkmess addressed the violence ourselves and delegates were facing your interim EDs reponse was to laugh and to justify the racist actions of board members by saying "they're old white women" #notsoequalvoice
Equal voice staff terrorized two Black women for 7 months, survielled us, allowed a board member to show me a photo of her hieling hitler. A group of young Black Muslim women wanted to address the room and the response was "THIS ISNT A FUCKING OPEN MIC" #notsoequalvoice
It just goes to show the disposability of BIPOC folks in politics. If you don’t toe the line you are the problem. #notsoequalvoice #cdnpoli
@gagiibaaikwe @EqualVoiceCA It’s gross but doesn’t surprise me. What does surprise me, however, is some of the attendees in the room. This org, called out by former staff and also young women across the country, continues to deny & deflect & has taken no accountability for their racism. Shame.
