@kellycroy A4: For our young PreK-2 students, we need to begin educating them regarding social media and cyberbullying. Taking time with our young students would help them as things become more difficult #npescchat

Whatever we do… as teachers… we can make a difference. We can help students feel good about themselves and keep them from feeling alone. They cannot learn and live a good life if they are being bullied. They need us. It’s real.
@kellycroy Not sure if #NPESCCHAT has a need to discuss the importance of PRESCHOOL! So many families think “I’ll just send my child for one year.” Or even worse, “they don’t need preschool. All they do is play.” WE have the impact to influence our youngest learners!

What do they need?
Well, too often the bully is given all the attention.
Victims of bullying have had their self-confidence and self-esteem eroded and it needs to be built back up. They need to feel loved and valued. Reassured. Takes time. Not a quick fix.

@kellycroy A5: #NPESCCHAT you are not alone! It takes one hurtful comment to tear someone down. We need positive role models who can sympathize and put their own personal stories out there. While also teaching them how to step up, be gritty, and respond to bullying to show internal strength
Oh my gosh!!!!! Yes!!!!! So many people are doing social media wrong. They use it to hurt, complain, defend, blame, and create drama.

@kellycroy Become social media positive influencers. Explaining that adults online sometimes don’t make the greatest choices - don’t follow their lead. Instead let’s introduce them to positive social media pages that follow their interests and can set a positive example for their own pages
Yes! It is difficult but I think we need to:
1) Teach bystanders to report or intervene.
2) Bullies to gain empathy.
3) Victims to build self confidence.
Too much for a tweet; I know many complications to this. But this is the gist.

A4: I think educating kids about their digital footprint starting at a young age as well as discussing how whatever you post will always be out there and can't be taken back. Kids live in the moment and don't always realize the effects of their actions. #npescchat
@kellycroy A4: #NPESCCHAT technology can be the best support and the worst enemy for kids. I think we need to stop saying “it happened online while the child was at home-not our problem”. Lets step up and confront this issue because we may be the only 1s in the child’s lives who will do so
@kellycroy A2: I try to talk with the kids individually about the difference. I will ask if the person they are talking about is being a bully, is he/she being mean, or are they being rude? The students usually know the difference once we clarify. Then we problem solve together. #npescchat
