Not your department Minister Schreiber but the exact same thing is happening at the #NPTR (National Public Transport Regulator) with the application for operating licenses by tour operators. A mountain of irrelevant, unsanctioned documents are demanded (all certified of course) which are not mentioned in the NLTA. And they consistently fail to meet the turnaround times stipulated in the legislation. Even accredited operators routinely have to wait over a year for a simple vehicle permit. Massive throttling of our tourism sector by the dysfunctional regulator. This failure has been repeatedly brought to the minister’s attention since 2016 but nothing has changed.

@MandyWiener Sorry to hear that. Some tourist transport operators in South Africa have been waiting five YEARS for accreditation or operating licenses for their vehicles from the national public transport regulator. I’m not kidding. The #NPTR is a disaster for the tourism industry.

@SATSA's Oupa Pilane appeals to @PresidencyZA to remove #redtape around #nptr tourism operator licences which are meant to be issued in 60 days for new operators, and 1 day for already accredited ones. This hasn’t happened for years. Do the right thing Mr. President!

@HermanMashaba @MbalulaFikile You can add to this the #NPTR disaster. Since @MbalulaFikile became minister of transport, almost no operating licenses have been issued. I’ve been waiting 3 years for mine. Hundreds of tourist vehicles are stranded without operating licenses or forced to operate illegally.

@MbalulaFikile Mr Fix when are you going to fix the #NPTR? I have 6 tourism vehicles, all of them waiting on operating licenses, waiting time ranging from 1-2 years!!! We cannot operate. We have choose between operating illegally or closing down and retrenching all our staff. Please fix this!
