Does anyone really imagine that the Rapid Support Forces (#RSF) can form a constructive part of any governance arrangement in #Sudan? Their legacy to date is one of death and destruction. The genocidal assaults on El #Geneina and El #Fasher; the brutal siege of El #Obeid; the massive destruction left in #Khartoum and #Omdurman; the collapse of security and meaningful governance in #Nyala—all make clear that the RSF has no interest in governing Sudan. The ambitions of this genocidal militia force extend only to conquest for power and wealth, which they regard as interchangeable. We should see the RSF militarization of Jabrat al-Sheikh hospital and subsequent looting as emblematic of these ambitions. And we should see in the #UAE’s continuing support of those ambitions the cruelest form of a new colonialism—conducted at a distance by means of a ruthlessly authoritarian control of vast petro-wealth.

The int’l community had a year and a half to respond to the #RSF’s genocidal assault on El #Fasher; all it could do was point to the evidence of #genocide after the fact. There is good reason to believe that despite posturing my same int’l actors, El #Obeid will also fall to RSF. Another victory for the #UAE and its proxy war in #Sudan.

The besieged citizens of El Obeid, North Kordofan, are trapped with no avenues to escape. Over the past two days, targeted drone strikes have hit fuel stations in El Obeid and Al-Rahad, as well as a fuel truck that was travelling along a road connecting the two towns. Now water prices have skyrocketed and no one can afford local transport. Donkey carts are the only means for most. Even worse, drones are circling the skies above and no one dares leave the city for fear of targeting. The Rapid Support Forces (RSF) appear to be preparing to siege the strategic capital of North Kordofan State. Civilians Ayin has spoken to fear yet another devastating raid like that seen in Wad Medani, Geneina, and El Fasher.
