Since 2/3 of you, Alice, and Bob (a majority) have agreed that this is acceptable, you and Alice both remove $5 from Carol's account, and add $5 to Dan's account. You then each call Bob to inform him of the change, at which point Bob records the change in his own copy of the balance sheet. You then all go back to waiting for the next call(s). Moments later, you receive a call from Dan. Dan informs you that he would like to send $50 to Emma. You check, and it seems that Dan does indeed have a balance of $105, and is able to send $50 to Emma. You hang up. Before you are able to call Alice or Bob to inform them of this request, you *receive* a call from Bob, informing you that he and Alice have just approved Dan sending $60 to Frankie. You then immediately receive a call from Alice, confirming the same. This conflicts with the request you received from Dan to send $50 to Emma, as according to your balance sheet, Dan only has $105, and cannot both send $50 to Emma and $60 to Frankie. But you, Alice and Bob had previously agreed that the first request to be confirmed by the majority (2/3) of the three of you should be approved, and the other(s) rejected. Knowing this agreement, you discard Dan's original request to you to send $50 to Emma, and record Dan's send of $60 to Frankie in your balance sheet by removing $60 from Dan's balance and adding $60 to Frankie's balance. You then immediately call Dan back to kindly inform him that there must have been some confusion, and his request to send $50 to Emma has been declined due to not having enough money in his balance. This process continues for eternity, and you never leave your bed again.
