How It Started vs How It’s Going
Gather 'round, my fellow Arisen, and I shall tell you the story of #OperationRainfall (click "Show More").
Like #TheArisenWantMore, they were a fan-led campaign. They were active in 2011, and their aim was to get Nintendo to approve North American releases of several Japanese titles (Xenoblade Chronicles, The Last Story, and Pandora’s Tower) onto the Wii.
Like us, they used hashtags and social media. They also bombarded Nintendo with phone calls and mailed letters. Hence the name “Rainfall.”
If you don’t count their incessant tactics, they were impeccably polite in all their communications with Nintendo.
They were covered favorably by gaming press, including @Kotaku, @IGN, @GamesRadar, and @Eurogamer.
Nintendo eventually responded, telling them there were no plans to bring the desired games to the Wii. They kept asking anyway.
Nintendo employees eventually told them to stop. They still kept asking.
Other members of the gaming community, like this guy, criticized them. And still they kept at it.

In any case, since then, all three titles have been released in North America on the Wii. Some people still debate whether Operation Rainfall had anything to do with this, but the timing and visibility of the campaign make it hard to dismiss its impact.
I've been inspired by #OperationRainfall since I started this. Maybe #TheArisenWantMore/#ExpandDD2 will one day be remembered like they are. Maybe...

I still remember when my friend got me into xb1 when it was still on the wii.
played it on 3ds and thought, "how the heck is this game on a little ol' handheld?"
then when you hit gaur plains for the 1st time...
@Stealth40k Xenoblade 1 and Operation Rainfall really did a lot to get JRPGs a good foothold in global popularity.
I thank them every time I see a niche one we likely would've never seen in the West over a decade ago

Muchas veces veréis que siempre hablo del Xenoblade Chronicles 2 o del 3, o incluso del X. Pero el juego más importante de toda la saga es el 1 y es un absoluto JUEGAZO. Además puso a la saga en el mapa y lo hizo luchando por hacerse un hueco en la industria.
Volvemos a lo grande con nuestra sección #RPGSemanal hablando de Pandora's Tower. Este RPG se quedó en Wii y de momento no hay otra forma de jugarlo, pero logró marcar a muchos de los que lo jugaron. ¿Qué recordáis de él?
Creo que no va a haber más movimientos como la #OperationRainfall si hicieran falta. Ahora la comunidad se está midiendo la polla e hinchando el pecho cuando su trozo de plástico favorito gana en ventas al otro cacho de plástico.
