Taylor Thornburg brings us home for the last #pohocon21 panel with a discussion of old age in David Lynchโs cinema. Old age denotes horrific a removal from โusefulโ society under capitalism, and a removal from politics, family, and fitness.
By early 20th century, older people were more vulnerable to fall into poverty, as if they couldn't work they were replaced by younger more efficient workers

The common theology of the time (premodern Christian) was that life and death was just a journey towards God, and so longevity was not particularly sought after, preferring a morally good life
