Oil #CL #USO #XLE looks to be at or near its highs.
Back in January, I flagged gold, silver, platinum and palladium – even took short positions (not something I usually do).
Since then:
#GLD -16%
#SLV -39%
#PPLT -34%
#PALL -32%
At some point, the risk/reward simply stops making sense.
Worth keeping that in mind – especially when sentiment starts to feel one-sided and driven by extremes.
Think.
Why I avoid trading #XLE
First – borderline suicidal investing.
Since May 2008: +23%.
Since June 2014: +12%.
“Great dividends”? You’ve got to be kidding.
Now adjust that for real inflation since 2008 and 2014.
Second – peak recognition.
Peak #1: May 2008 → -59%
Peak #2: June 2014 → -78%
Now ask yourself: where are we?
Could this be peak #3? I don’t know.
But if I feel like riding downhill, I’d rather go to a water park.
