Thailand's caretaker prime minister Prayuth Chan-Ocha announced that he will quit politics after a bid to extend his near-decade rule failed with the defeat of the pro-establishment parties in the May general election.
"From now on I want to quit politics, resigning as a member of the United Thai Nation Party (UTN)," he said in a statement released by his party today.
On 14 May, Thailand held its general election and voting to choose the next Prime Minister is scheduled to begin on Thursday, Bangkok Post reported.
So far, several Thai media reported that Pita Limjaroenrat of the Move Forward Party being a leading contender to be the next Premier of the Thai Kingdom.
